Summer 1995...Two drivers in the Rebel Cup division that qualified as surprise entrants were Richard Brace Jr. and Chris Adams. Brace races wherever he wishes and although he was 40 minutes from the Civil War race in Placerville, he wanted to run Hanford this night, so he did. Brace is probably listed in more track and series point standings than about anyone with his here and there program, not getting caught up in any point battles but just enjoying racing at a variety of venues. He is pointing towards next month’s NST Speedweek and hoping to run the entire six race series. He plans to race at Placerville next weekend before packing for the Oregon/Washington week.
Summer 1995...Once the GSC season ends, you will never know who will tow to Hanford to run with the Rebel Sprints, but the only unusual entrat was Auburn driver, Richard Brace Jr. Brace had a tough time getting there as his truck blew a transmission on the way and tow truck brought the Sprint Car to Hanford. The crew chief for Brace is David Engstrom, a Modified Midget racer and Brace returns the crew chief favor when Engstrom is racing.
Brace commented that, other than Hanford, the only place he had run where the promoter came by to thank him for appearing was when he raced with the Northern Sprint Tour. Hanford promoter, Dave Swindell, shows his appreciation for visiting drivers along with doing a good job announcing and an excellent job of directing the races.
Summer 1995…Richard Brace Jr. was on hand as he continues to show up and race wherever it suits him, kind of like a real outlaw. Brace, now 29, began at age 16 in Mini Stocks and had much success in Modifieds, but Sprint Cars was always his firs love in racing.
